TECBIOFOOD Project
São Tomé and Príncipe (STP) faces economic, educational and public health challenges, but it has valuable bio-resources, such as native plant foods, which are still under-exploited. The TecBioFood project aims to improve skills in higher education in Food Science and Technology and Management, exploiting these bio-resources for the sustainable development of STP.
The University of Porto and the University of Vigo have teamed up to transfer knowledge and skills to the University of STP (USTP) and the Institute of Accounting, Administration and Informatics (IUCAI) of STP, through:
- Updating and improving 1st and 2nd cycle curricular units;
- Creating a comprehensive training plan with innovative teaching methods;
-
Setting up a pilot food technology laboratory (TecBioFood Lab) at USTP to produce and characterise new food products.

Scientific dissemination
The new products will help people meet their nutritional needs and will be integrated into HELPO's food support activities for vulnerable groups.
Health and well-being
The inclusion of these products in school and hospital menus across the country.
Food recycling
